It's very beautiful to see but... am I the only one who thinks that those wide and almost empty bars are kind of uncomfortable and a waste of screen space?

The last time I tried eOS that was not customizable, and I don't think they will allow us to easily customize it...

You mean the top panel?
Anyway customizing pantheon is very simple,you can use cerbere dconf key for change all elements of desktop(panel dock and add/remove elements).
